Oriental Village Langkawi: SkyCab + SkyBridge + SkyGlide

14 October 2017 (Saturday)

The Oriental Village is located in the Burau Bay or north-western quadrant of Langkawi, at the foothills of Mt. Machincang, one of three main areas of interest of Langkawi Geopark. It is owned and managed by LADA Eco-Tourism Sdn Bhd, a fully-owned subsidiary of the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA).

The Oriental Village may be synonymous with "Langkawi Cable Car," but the Village truly has more to offer visitors than just cable car rides. In fact, the Village offers more than 50 activity providers; food & beverage outlets; souvenir & retail stores; galleries; hotels and spas, making it the largest outdoor lifestyle mall in the northern region.

Langkawi Cable Car @ SkyCab [Ticket Price]

Take a ride with Langkawi Cable Car that rises more than 700 meters (709m, to be exact) up into the 550 million year-old Mt. Machincang for the most thrilling ride and unforgetable experience on your Malaysia (or Langkawi holiday). At a 42-degree incline at some points, few other cable car rides offer a steeper climb than that at Langkawi Cable Car! Once atop Machincang, the view of the surrounding areas and rock formations–touted as "the Birthplace of the Region"–of Mt. Machincang are both spectacular and stunning. On clearer days, one may even get a peek into our neighbours to the north.

The SkyCab received certificate from “The Malaysia Book of Records” with the longest free span mono-cable car (950meter).

A SkyCab can accommodate 6 people in a gondola. If has wheel chair then a gondola can accommodate 3 persons only. It is a challenge to use wheel chair to go inside of gondola, need to be fast when the cable car is slow down.

Normal operation for Langkawi SkyCab is from 09.30am to 7.00pm on weekdays and weekends. During school holiday and public holiday period, operation will start much earlier than this. However, Langkawi SkyCab will close for maintenance according to predetermined schedule.

The view from SkyCab is very beautiful.

In front of SkyCab entrance has some shops. I spotted a cute girl make many types of balloon for kids.

SkyBridge

Completed in 2004, this suspended bridge is built on top of the Machinchang mountain. Accessible from the Top Station, the bridge is suspended from a 82m high single pylon, hangs at about 100m above ground and it can accommodate up to 250 people at the same time. It swings out over the landscape to give visitors a unique spatial experience, and to bring them into otherwise unattainable locations, above virgin jungle with spectacular views. Notably, in contrast to a straight bridge, where the end is always monotonously in sight, a curved bridge offers spectacularly changing perspective that reinvent themselves, as one proceeds along it- SkyBridge

Langkawi SkyBridge is the longest free span and curved bridge in the world. It has 2 options to get to the SkyBridge which are using SkyGlide or walk. In this camp which has people with disabilities so we use SkyGlide to there.

SkyGlide is a new platform were built linking the top station and Sky Bridge, taking passengers down to the Sky Bridge. It cost RM15 for adult and RM10 for children. Visitors would be able to use SkyGlide for both travel and return journey. The price including with SkyBridge entrance fee.

A cheaper alternative is for visitors to walk 10–15 minutes along a steep mountain track to the SkyBridge. Entrance fee for SkyBridge is RM5 for adult and RM3 for children.

On the SkyBridge, we need to take a group photo and post in Facebook in order to get many “likes”. Lastly, my group photos has many “likes” and win it! The prize is water bottle.

At the SkyBridge has many people at there. For those who scared high definitely will feel scared when reach it and at the center of bridge has glasses that can look clearly what at downside.

Please take off the shoes when at glasses. I did not step with my shoes; I just put my leg above the glass and take picture of it.

SkyGlide

SkyGlide is a cabin type of transport that can move upward and downward according to a certain incline level. In, general, the design of the cabin is like an elevator with the finishing of glass panels on all sides. This is to allow visitors to have a clear view of mount Machincang and its surroundings. Currently visitor who wish to visit SkyBridge will have to take a short 10 minutes’ walk through a jungle trail. This short walk is both fun but a bit challenging especially to the elderly and children. However with SkyGlide visitor would have a much faster and convenient way of visiting SkyBridge.

With 94 meters of track length, SkyGlide cabin can accommodate up to 12 passengers or 1050 kilogram of load per trip. It takes less than 2 minutes for the cabin to travel from top station to SkyBridge. SkyGlide ticket is sold separately from the standard SkyCab ticket. The ticket is available only from the SkyGlide ticketing counter at our top station. For an additional fee of RM10 for adult and RM7 for children, visitors would be able to use SkyGlide for both your travel and return journey.

In our trip has group member with wheel chair therefore we are using SkyGlide in order to reach SkyBridge.

SkyPos

This is the one and only post box on the top of mountain in Langkawi. SkyPos offers visitors to our picturesque mountain top destination the opportunity to share their ‘I was here’ moment with their loved ones back home by posting a postcard, letter or greeting card via a specially placed POS Malaysia post box at the Top Station, atop Mt. Machinchang.

When I backed from SkyBridge, I just saw the post box. I had bring the blank postcard and stamp but as all my group member want to go down therefore I did not has chance to write and send postcard from this post box.

From the website, it stated that postcard and stamp is available at SkyBoutique outlet located at Top Station.
