Kuching Trip 2016: Sarawak Textile Museum

11th September 2016

Textile Museum is one of the Kuching’s earliest 2 stories buildings, this elegant construction has many incarnations (mixture of the English Renaissance and English Colonial) until its present day as it displaying local textiles and costumes from the various ethnic communities of Sarawak.

The entrance fee for textile museum is free. It is very near with Carpenter Street, post office and Plaza Merdeka.

The history for museum as below which I get from a brochure:-

The Pavilion was built in 1909 as a hospital for the exclusive use of Rajah’s officers and other Europeans; consultation rooms were on the ground floor, hospital beds on the first and nurses’ quarter on the second. It was the first multi-storey building in Kuching and during the Japanese Occupation. It was used as their Propaganda headquarters. After the War, the colonial government housed the Sarawak Education Department there until the 1970s when it was briefly occupied by the Judiciary Department. Presently, it houses Textile Museum under the charge of Sarawak Museum.

Ground Floor only has receptionist with souvenir shops.

Inside of it is quite difficult to take photos due to the lightening.

The textile in this museum is beautiful.

In the museum has displaying the traditional clothes for all ethics during wedding.

Kuching Trip 2016: Top Spot Seafood Food Court

10th September 2016

At night, around Nova Kuching Hotel seems difficult to look for dinner because many shops closed at night. While walking to look for any shop which is open, suddenly I saw *UTC (Urban Transformation Centre) Building then I suggested with my family that we can dinner at there.

*UTC where most of the government departments located. UTC has Immigration Department Malaysia, 1 Malaysia Clinic, National Registration Department of Malaysia (JPN) and many more.

Top Spot Food Court (roof top) is a combination of all the local exotic food especially seafood with more than 10 restaurants in operation every evening till late night. I just knew that food court located at the top of the building but did not see any stairs or lift so I asked for security at the parking lots there. Top Spot Seafood Food Court at 6th floor so we were using lift to there.

When at food court, it has lots of people dinner. I looked for Bukit Mata Seafood 25 Sdn Bhd restaurant because I saw many online good reviews.

Bukit Mata Seafood 25 Sdn Bhd has many tables being reserved so the staff brings us to another place which no far from restaurants. We ordered some food which as below:-

Vegetables @ RM 18.00

Midin @ RM 20.00

Kuching’s humble ferns from the jungle have evolved into a gourmet item. A must try, it’s cooked with either belacan (fermented shrimp paste) or local rice wine or just simply with garlic.

Oyster Pancake @ RM 20.00

The pancake is large in size with some oyster. For me just attracted with its size and it’s taste normal. Many people like to take picture with it.

Fish @ RM 29.70

Steam Rice for five @ RM 5.00

Beside fish, we did not order other seafood such as prawn, crabs and many more due to high cholesterol. We waited quite some time for our food because at that time has many people. While waiting for food, my dad ordered some satay to eat.

If next time have chance go again, I would like to try for Ayam Pansuh or Bamboo Chicken (appx. RM 36)

Kuching Trip 2016: Chong Choon Café

11th September 2016

During my first visit to Kuching, my friend did bring me to Chong Choon Café. When at Nova Kuching Hotel, I kept finding the café. In my mind that the café at opposite road there but cannot see it. Then I tried online find the location of Chong Choon Café and knew that it moved and nearer with hotel, no need cross the road.

Same like before, café was full of people so we need to wait for a while. I can saw that the café become bigger and has many stalls. At there you can choose either small or big size of food which good for who has small appetite to finish it.

This Kolo noodle is in small size as my sister usually eat small portion of breakfast.

This is Mee Jawa which has beef but I did not eat beef. When I order, I thought in Mee Jawa has chicken.

This is Woton (a type of dumplings) noodle which also in small size. This is dry noodle, I thought it is in soup.

This is garlic bread which is crispy and delicious.

This is 3 layers milk tea which you also can order for its size.

This is some side dish which we order while wait for our breakfast.

The laksa looks delicious which ordered by my mum.

This is clay pot noodle which has some seafood with vegetable.

At there I saw a foreigner took his camera and took photos of each stalls. One of girl at the stall said “don’t take my picture” with a smile.

Kuching Trip 2016: Min Hong Kee

12th September 2016

Min Hong Kee located at Jalan Padungan which has many food stalls such as laksa, kolo mee and many more.

First I ordered laksa in special size and lastly my sister looks that laksa more delicious so I exchanged with she. Pity me, lastly during my Kuching trip, I did not try for laksa.

This is kolo mee.

This is spring roll which has many ingredients inside of it. I like it very much. It reminds me of my Melaka trip which tried for Bunga Raya Popiah.

I planned to bring my family to Song Kheng Hai Food Court to try for Gong Pia but due to time constraints we did not go for there. When at Min Hong Kee, I was very happy saw it has sell Gong Pia. The Gong Pia is very delicious.

This is rice vermicelli soup.

This is Lao Shu Fen. It looks like a tail of mouse so it sound like "Mouse noodle" in Chinese.

This is Zao Cai Fen Gan which has thick type of rice vermicelli. It tastes sour. This is Foo Chow dish.

The Palace Hotel: Hotel Gallery

At lobby of The Palace Hotel has Hotel Gallery which you can pay a visit. The gallery is not big.

Below are the items which come from recycle items such as old magazine, toilet paper roll, can and many more.

The hotel is welcomed for cross-cultural. Therefore hotel guest can get a flag of own country and place on the world map where guest come from to create that multi-cultural haven.

They are very creative in using recycle items as decoration.

“A Gift to Save the Environment” is an interesting idea in creating awareness and support towards saving the environment.

1. Purchase a recycle gift at Gift Shop (Lobby Level)
2. Drop the gift into the Box provided
3. In return of participation, picks a Gift for yourself and bring it home as part of a memorable stay at The Palace Hotel.

For these fertilizers, I not sure it is for sale or not because cannot find the price and I also did not ask for the staff.

My favorite is using many small pieces of clothes become an art.
