Sandakan Itinerary 2019: Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre & Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre

Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre (Malaysian Adult RM 5)

When in Sandakan, do visit for Orang Utan. This place was quite far from town. We went there by self-drive.  I am not sure whether has any public bus can reach or not.

When in rehabilitation center, do remember that cannot bring the bag during visit and bring along your ticket. You can put those things inside locker provided.

Orang Utan live freely in the jungle, not inside of cage. On the way to a small house, we did not see any Orang Utan. When in small house, you can see the Orang Utan through the transparent window. Many people were taking camera or hand phone to take the best moment of Orang Utan.

Before feeding time, all of us went to a platform and wait for Orang Utan came to eat. At here, you can see lots of foreigners. After some while, we move to Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. On the way, the Orang Utan so close with us! I quite scared they will steal my hand phone. Haha.. Luckily, they are nice.

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (Malaysian Adult RM 5.30)

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation is opposite with Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.

Near with ticket counter has souvenirs place such as magnet, t-shirt, books and many more.

Sun Bear same like Orang Utan also live freely inside jungle. See Sun Bear need some luck because they are so small. At the end, we did not see any sun bear, a bit disappointed. I think that maybe they are sleeping or too shy. Haha..

Although I did not have chance to see sun bear but I did saw the founder of Bornean Sun Bear Conservation.

Sandakan Itinerary 2019: OYO Hotel London

Hotel London started out as a residential development during the reestablished British North Borneo company rule and is one of the earliest development near 4th Avenue after the short reign of Imperial Japanese rule in Sandakan. This period after the Pacific war left Sandakan a shadow of its former glory and left many of the development at Sandakan in ruins.

The building was built in 1960 predating the adjacent Sandakan landmark Wisma Khoo and was rented out as several unit of residential apartment for Chinese migrants as well as local people of Sandakan. After a few years the owner decided that because there were a lot of foreign visitors coming to Sandakan during the 60s particularly oversea workers from Japanese construction firms and Hong Kong visitors who were riding the timber and construction boom during one of Sandakan's more busier times, Mr Hing decided that it has a potential to be operated as a Hotel.

Therefore from 1975 the building was operated as a family managed hotel and was named Hotel London. Hotel London started out as a Small budget hotel with 18 rooms and a small lobby at 1st floor and was proudly one of the earliest hotels in Sandakan.

Over the period of 40 years, the hotel has gone for through several renovations and facelift but as a family run hotel we still happily cater for budget oriented clients with the highest standard of hospitality—Online Resource

This hotel name “Hotel London” but not in London, in Sandakan. It is located at the heart of Sandakan city so the location quite strategic. Sandakan Harbor Square, Central Market, Restaurant and many more are within walking distance from hotel. Besides that, it is also within walking distance to Crystal Crest (Turtle Island Booking Office & Jetty) in 10 minutes’ walk.

The room that we stayed was Standard Double Room that cost us RM 32.51 per day (we stayed for 2 nights). We booked via Agoda. Opposite hotel has supermarket that you can buy some simple food and drinks.

At the lobby has computer with internet access. Water dispense also at lobby. Near with entrance has Tourist Information Corner with lots of brochure and catalog.

When I wrote this article, I just knew that it has rooftop garden & fishpond with reading materials and tea & coffee making facilities available.

The room equipped with air-conditional, TV (limited channel), cupboard, table, chair and others. Hotel did provide FREE Wi-Fi but I use my own internet data.

Inside washroom has water heater and it is quite clean.  Basic toiletries provided.

The room did not has hairdryer but you can request from receptionist.

In overall, the hotel is quite good with super cheap price. Bear in mind that the hotel only has stairs. With this hotel price, I can get basic need during travel although the room is quite old such as the door.

Kuala Lumpur + Seremban Trips 2019

This trip was together with my family as all of us attended my sister’s convocation in Wisma Win (MRT Taman Tun Dr Ismail).

When searching for KL Trip, I found out some useful website which as below:-

Check MRT / LRT / Monorail fare: TouchnGo cheaper than cash
Estimated Fare for Grab: only for small car
Rapid KL Airport Shuttle: This is a new shuttle bus to Putra Height LRT (RM 10 include train and bus)

Future Trip Checklist:
Coca Seafood Restaurant Giant Curry Laska (Batu Caves)
Inside Scoop: Rabbit Candy Ice-cream
Jalan Alor Street Art
Bank Negara Malaysia Museum & Art Gallery (LRT Bandaraya)

The transport in KL, I mostly used Grab apps as it is convenient for a big family to travel around. For first time user, you can use my referral code “GRABVY1LF9MR”.

22nd March 2019 (Friday)

Labuan Aiport >> Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) >> NHNA Academy (Subang Jaya Station) >> J.Dupion Residence (MRT Taman Pertama) >> Sunway Velocity (MRT Maluri)>> J.Dupion Residence

AirAsia: Labuan >> Kuala Lumpur 10:35am-13:00pm RM 174.00

From March until 28 April, in KLIA 2 has Pop-up Store of Doraemon. At there, you can buy some souvenirs or take pictures with Doraemon and friends.

In KLIA2, I was having lunch in Quizinn by Rasa and ordered Kabsah Chicken RM 10.50 (Promotion price). From KLIA2 to KL Sentral, I took bus that cost me RM 12 per trip (to KLIA Airport also same price).

When in KL Sentral, I went to Aloft KL Sentral- Hotel Lobby to call for Grab as I did not have any idea where to wait for Grab if inside KL Sentral. In KL, you can see quite many toll station and Grab will charge toll fee to your Grabpay if you choose this payment method.

From MRT Maluri, you can go to Sunway Velocity or Aeon Mall. It is so convenience as you not need to cross the road to reach Sunway Velocity. Inside Sunway Velocity has Aeon Grocery Shop.

In Sunway Velocity, we went to Sushi King for dinner. That time Sushi King organized a contest for every spending RM68 and above can join for the contest. The prize is so attractive, which is Osaka trip. I don't have any luck :(.

23rd March 2019 (Saturday)

J.Dupion Residence >> Hor KaoTeashop/Ho Kow Hainan Kopitiam >> Petaling Street (MRT Pasar Seni) >> Wisma Win >> 1Utama Shopping Centre >> Wisma Win >> J.Dupion Residence >> IKEA Cheras + MyTown Shopping Centre (MRT Cochrane) >> J.Dupion Residence

Inside of Wisma Win has a hall but not so big. Besides that, it has Wim-Azah Aziz Gallery of Malay Traditional Costumes, which is quite interesting for me.

In 1Utama Shopping Centre, I was having lunch in Food Republic. I ordered Chili Pan Mee RM 9.01 that taste so-so.

Using MRT Cochrane also can link to MyTown Shopping Centre by using underground but I used Grab to reach this mall. Near with this mall has IKEA Cheras. I was having my dinner (Sun Kong Tofu Rice with Sunny Egg-RM 9.43) in Food Empire Level 3.

This was my first time go IKEA which the head office in Sweden. It is so big!

24th March 2019 (Sunday)

J.Dupion Residence >> KL Sentral >> Seremban KTM Station >> KL Sentral/ NuSentral >> J.Dupion Residence

Initially we planned go to Ipoh but due to school holiday, the train was full.  Next time, you can call to KTM station to ask for seat available to Ipoh.

Then we changed to Seremban as it takes around 1 hour 20 minutes to reach by using KTM. In KL Sentral, you can use Identity Card (IC) as TouchnGo card. You just need to reload minimum RM 10. My advice is ask the staff for the fee return of Seremban and reload it into IC as Seremban KTM Station cannot reload for IC.

When want back to KL Sentral, Seremban KTM Station cannot help to reload IC so I need to use KTM Card (Card RM 5 and Reload RM 10). In food court of NuSentral, you can showed your KTM card to enjoy 10% discount for food and drinks except some promotion items.  Example Marbo Nasu Don (RM 10.61 after discount –usual price RM 12.50) or Fettucine Vegetarian (RM 10.80 after discount-usual price RM 12).

25th March 2019 (Monday)

J.Dupion Residence >> KL Sentral/ NuSentral >> Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA1) >> Labuan Airport

Malindo Air: Kuala Lumpur >> Labuan 5:15pm-7:45pm (delayed to 7:30pm) RM 98.92

When in KLIA1, it has Indonesia travel exhibition. I did take some pictures to act as I went to Indonesia. Haha..
